NSS: National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme was introduced in the college in 1975. The college has four NSS units with 400 volunteers including a Girls’ unit. A free mass Eye Camp in Collaboration with the Lions Club of Vikarabad was a significant activity undertaken by NSS from 08.12.1977 to 17.12.1977 under the supervision of famous Ophthalmologist Dr. P. Shiva Reddy. Dr. Saibaba Goud and a team of Doctors from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Hyderabad conducted 200 operations in our College and treated 2,500 cases as out patients. It was a major activity in which students were given an opportunity to serve the local community

During 1978-1979 our NSS Unit opened Adult Education Centers on Gandhi Jayanthi Day in six surrounding villages of Vikarabad. Under NAEP ten more Adult Educations Centers were opened in different villages.A two day District Level Seminar on ‘Youth for Development’ on 3rd and 4th March, 1979 was organized. Sri Sadashiva Rao, IPS, Director of Youth Services, Government of India presided. The key note address was delivered by Dr. Babu Rao, NSS Coordinator, Osmania University. About 150 delegates from different villages of Ranga Reddy district participated in the Seminar. Our NSS volunteers attended a three day camp held at Pargi, Ranga Reddy Dist. from 10th to 12th January 1984, organized by the local elite of Pargi.

During 1987-1988 a batch of ten volunteers led by Dr. D. Dathatreya Reddy of Department of Zoology and NSS Programme Officer represented Osmania University in the massive ‘Ganga Seva Shivir, Kashi’ cleaning up prgramme organized by the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi under Ganaga Action Plan. They rendered worth remembering service in the cleaning up programme of polluted Ganga from 27th November, 1988 to 7th December, 1988 and won the best performance award in recognition of its service. The college NSS units initiated literary drive during summer in 1991 through its motto ‘Each One Teach One’ supplementing the efforts of the government in eradicating illiteracy during International literacy year. The Girls’ NSS unit of the college also has shown keen interest and attended many social service activities of their concern to serve the village women in different camps on different occasions. Kum.T. Kavitha took part in the Republic Day Celebration parade – 1992 at New Delhi.

A special winter camp was organized from 27.10.1991 to 05.11.1991. This camp was aimed at Mass Literacy and removing of Besharam Weed in three villages of Shivareddypet, Kothrepally and Yennepally of Vikarabad Mandal. From 14th to 21st January, 1992 the NSS Units celebrated Youth Week during which elocution competitions were conducted to the students on the topic of ‘National Integration’. In the month of September, 1994 a National Integration Camp was conducted at the College in which 16 Universities with 200 Volunteers participated. The Camp was sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The units actively participated in AIDS awareness programmes for students and youth. NSS Units of our College have been striving for the community development in and around Vikarabad. It is known for its activities and awareness campaigns. Our NSS Units are creating Environmental Awareness, AIDS Awareness and Rural awakening among the people of this area. Apart from the regular activities and special camps it is serving the rural folk by mitigating the local problems in the adopted village. The role being played in literacy, elimination of superstitions and creating Social Awareness is highly acclaimed by the public and authorities. Clean & Green is a regular and continuing activity of our wings. Our wings have actively participated in Janmabhoomi and got laurels to the Institution. Two of our programme officers were honoured by the then District Collector Mrs. Rani Kumudini on 26.01.1999. Our wing has been awarded the best participant award in 2003 for participating in Environmental Awareness Campaign. College garden development and landscape development are being looked after by the NSS.

Our NSS volunteers represented the following National & State level camps :

National Integration Camp held at Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi, 12th t18th Dec 1996.
State Level Youth Festival at Osmania University, 11th to 13th July 1998.
National Integration Camp at Barailly, U.P., 22nd to 28th Feb 2000.
An orientation programme was conducted for the volunteers on 24.09.2003 in connection with NSS Day. Sri G. Suryaprakash Rao, S.P. Rural Ranga Reddy District was the Chief Guest. Our College NSS Units celebrate NSS Day and World's AIDS Day on 24th September and 1st December respectively every year. 160 NSS volunteers donated the blood in the Blood Donation Camp organized by Red cross Society on 18/12/2007, Kum. K. Balamani NSS Volunteer of Unit IV, attended the RDC Camp at New Delhi on 26.01.2010. On July 31, 2010 a blood donation camp was organized in our college by Red Cross Blood Bank, Vikarabad. Indian Medical Association under the Chairmanship of Dr. Bhaktavatsalam collected the blood. 108 students including NSS volunteers, NCC cadets donated their blood voluntarily during this camp. Besides that our staff members also donated their blood.
